Space reservation is an alternative way to price an interstate move. Rather than use the net weight of the shipment as the basis of the pricing, space reservation allows the customer to rent some or all of the space in the trailer regardless of weight. Typically, customers choose the space reservation option when they want to reserve the entire truck for themselves even though they do not have enough to fill it. This is called exclusive use. By chartering the whole truck, the customer can now be assured that their delivery schedule will not be complicated by another customer’s shipment.
