A tariff item is an individual moving service that has a defined rate in the local or long-distance tariff. Examples of tariff items are the rates to pack a wardrobe carton, the rates to hold a shipment on a truck overnight, or the rate per hour to perform a local move. The are many potential services on a move that are not fully defined in a tariff such as the rate to disconnect a dryer by a plumber or the rate to crate a statue. Since these activities are all unique, charges are developed for each service based on the individual characteristic of that shipment or item. Arpin of RI uses the Arpin Van Lines AVL-100 tariff for all of its interstate rates.
