Upholstered furniture in the moving industry is referred to as Overstuffed or OS furniture. OS is a catch all term for all sofas, loveseats, chairs, and ottomans. Upholstered furniture faces special perils when being shipped on a truck and it takes special skill to move these items safely. Upholstery is susceptible to soiling, stretching, tearing, denting, pulls, folds, as well as a host of structural issues like loose arms, backs or scratched legs. Arpin of RI recommends that all upholstered (OS) items are stretch wrapped to protect the exterior. In addition, Arpin of RI crews are trained to prevent denting and frame damage by using very specific handling procedures. As an added benefit, upholstered items are stored on their feet in OS racks when they are placed into Arpin of RI’s storage warehouse.
