Salvage

Salvage is the process of retrieving items from the customer that were damaged during a move and have been replaced by full value replacement valuation. The carrier may waive salvage of the items, but it is a component of the full value valuation process. If an item is damaged so severely that the customer demands a replacement article, the damaged article is salvaged by the carrier to offset those costs. For example, a stainless refrigerator’s door is dented and the adjudicator determines that a replacement fridge is the best option. The customer will have to forfeit the dented fridge when the new fridge is delivered; they cannot keep both.
