Permanent storage is the long-term storage of household goods (HHG) in a warehouse. This long-term storage can be a local move or a long distance move that ends up as Storage in transit or SIT and exceeds the limits of SIT. The duration of SIT before it converts to permanent storage is variable, but for Arpin Van Lines, it is 180 days. Keep in mind that every interstate move must have a beginning and an end. The beginning date of the move is when the shipment is loaded and the end date of the shipment is 180 days after delivery into SIT. At day 180 of storage, the shipment convers to permanent storage with different valuation options that are managed by state law rather that Federal law.
