Demurrage is the fee assessed for holding household goods in a truck/trailer, or other carrier owned equipment beyond the allowed or agreed delivery spread. Demurrage fees are charged for each day the shipment is held. For example, the Arpin of RI truck arrives to deliver at your new residence, but the refinished floors need another 24 hours to fully dry. Rather than unloading into storage for just one day, Arpin of RI may request a demurrage fee to hold the driver and truck overnight.
