Tier

A tier is a vertical stack of furniture inside the moving van that extends from wall to wall and from floor to ceiling. A close analogy would be comparing a stick of butter to a moving trailer. If the butter is cut vertically into 20 or 30 patties, each patty would correspond to a tier. The tier has basically three horizontal levels. The lowest is base; larger more sturdy items like dressers, washers, or heavy cartons. The next level is secondary base; smaller sturdy items like end tables, night stands, and medium weight cartons. The upper level has all of the lighter, more fragile items like chairs, small tables, and very light cartons.
