A piano charge is a flat rate accessorial charge that is added to the bill to offset the time, manpower, and extra handling involved with moving a spinet, upright, or grand piano. The piano charge is generally higher for grand pianos than for console style pianos. Additionally, some grand pianos also require the deservicing of humidifying mechanisms in addition to regular disassembly. Arpin of RI recommends that customers with grand pianos also purchase a piano board and straps themselves for moves which will be terminating in storage so the piano will not have to be transferred to a second piano board mid-move.
